Ever wonder why kids love Mickey Mouse so much? It’s really quite simple. He’s a very happy fella with big ears and he makes our kids laugh. He’s colorful, his voice is catchy, and he does things that our kids can fantasize about. He stimulates their little imaginations, he makes them think and learn, and now he can dance up a storm in the middle of your living room. Mickey Mouse began his film career in the 1920’s and his band of supporting characters included his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, arch enemy Pegleg Pete, pals Horace Horsecollar and Goofy, and that fun loving dog Pluto. Amazingly, Mickey’s only Academy Award is for a film that he didn’t even star in, Lend A Paw, who’s main character was actually Pluto. His most famous role (that was Oscar winning no less) was as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice in Fantasia.

King Features Syndicate launched the very first Mickey Mouse comic strip in 1930. He also starred in books, sheet music, and many other types of printed documents. He’s been incredibly loved since day one and his group of comrades have enjoyed the limelight too although none of them have risen to the level of fame that Mickey carries.

In 1955 The Mickey Mouse Club roared to life on our TV screens with an ever changing cast of teenage performers. Hosted by Jimmie Dood, the “head Mouseketeer”, these teens danced and sang their way into our hearts. Annette Funicello and Cubby O’Brien are probably two of the most famous and initial Mouseketeers. Not only did these groups of kids entertain but many of them went on to future fame because of the exposure that they had being a Mouseketeer. Famous participants include Christina Aguilera, Johnny Crawford, Britney Spears, Keri Russell, Tony Lucca, Justine Timberlake, and Lisa Whelchel.
